Bernard Buffet, French expressionist painter born in 1928 and died in 1999, developed a very personal figurative style throughout his career.
He began drawing and painting at a very young age, and in 1942 he attended evening classes in Paris and won the entrance exam to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in December 1943 at the age of 15.
In 1948, Emmanuel David offered him an exclusive contract, which was later shared with Maurice Garnier.
Since 1973 a museum is dedicated to him in Japan in Higashino.
The Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Museum of Montmartre organized a retrospective in 2017.
