"I was born in Syracuse, Sicily. My whole childhood was punctuated by the sound of my mother's sewing machine. She was a seamstress. Watching her transform a simple scrap of fabric into a trapeze dress or three-piece suit fascinated me. I thought, "When I grow up, I want to do this! I want to create! I want to see the unthinkable, the unimaginable born under my hands!"
