Born in 1959 in the Dordogne, Daniel Castan has been drawing since he was a child. A graduate of the Beaux Arts de Bordeaux, he works as a graphic designer, creates his company and carries out work for Unicef, Pierre Balmain, l'Onu, Zippo, Polyflamme... Then at the age of 40, he took up brushwork again for pleasure and only for pleasure. At 48 years old, he gives up everything to live his dream...

In his first professional life, the artist Daniel Castan travelled extensively in New York and Hong Kong. He keeps a fascination for urban universes and their disproportionate perspectives. In his paintings, he tries to recreate these very graphic atmospheres. The lines of the buildings are lost in the sky, the wide avenues seem endless, the colours clash. The artist works according to his memories, his imagination.

Daniel Castan chose to paint with alkyd oil. This is worked like conventional oil, but its binder is a resin that allows accelerated drying. The knife, on the other hand, is the artist's preferred tool. It allows him to work both in paste, in a large touch, and to draw in the material.
